For the inaugural artwork of the LIGHT-BOX Gallery, a collaborative initiative by PROJCT and EJAR, we aim to transform this welcoming and community-friendly location in the Sai Ying Pun neighborhood into a multidimensional white cube landmark. This vision is brought to life through a collaborative drawing created by four emerging local artists: Au Kin Wai Johnny, Chan Man Yi, Yeung Shu Nga Emma, and Yuen An Tung Ariel.
In this co-drawing, the artists express their experiences of hybridity and the lively dynamic nature of the neighborhood. These themes are articulated through both the carefully arranged and the by-chance spontaneous composition, it incorporates complex textural visual elements drawn and captured from the surrounding area. The interwoven spatial structures create an illusion of "picture-in-picture", "frame-in-frame", and "space-in-space", inviting viewers to engage with the artwork on multiple levels and ways of sight. The intention is to highlight the variable nature of perception, exploring and switching the interplay between the perspectives of the light box and the pedestrians on the street.
Curated and Presented by PROJCT and EJAR.
